“Volunteers are not paid-not because they are worthless, but because they are priceless”
Joining us
What is a volunteer?
At the CAP Crawley Centre a volunteer is any person who freely chooses to carry out a task or role that we have agreed for them to do, which contributes to the aims and objectives of the charity and for which they do not receive any financial or material reward.
What do our volunteers do?
There are many ways in which volunteers can contribute to the Crawley CAP Centre’s work. In fact we couldn’t survive without our volunteers.
We have a range of roles within the CAP centre where our volunteers can make a big difference. These include roles where you have contact with our clients: supporting our debt coaches on client visits (we call these volunteers ‘befrienders’), or helping us to run the CAP Money, Life Skills and Job Clubs programmes.
There are also volunteer roles which support the Centre’s work more generally including working behind the scenes at our special events for clients, representing us as a Community Links Coordinator, fundraising for us, or sorting out some of those crucial admin tasks.
Who can volunteer?
We are looking for people who have an interest in helping people in need. Our volunteers are from all around Crawley and the surrounding areas and they come from all walks of life, bringing a variety of skills and experience. A volunteer needs to be over 18 years of age for any role requiring a DBS check or involves contact with confidential information.
All volunteers who are working directly with our clients should be Christians in agreement with the Centre’s statement of faith, and we normally seek a reference from a leader of the church they attend. For other volunteer roles we seek people who are in agreement with or sympathetic to our Christian ethos.
How to become a volunteer
If you are interested in volunteering, you can either email our Centre Manager, Rachel Dawson, (racheldawson@caupuk.org) or call her on 07749 938443. Depending on the voluntary role you may be asked to complete an application form, including two character references.
Trustees, Team Leaders and some other volunteers also require a Disclosure and Barring Service certificate to confirm their suitability to work with our client group, some of whom are deemed as vulnerable adults. The Crawley CAP Centre will apply for this on your behalf and meet any costs involved.
Get involved with CAP Christmas
Each Christmas we like to bless our clients with a Christmas Party and Christmas hampers. We always need help in making the hampers and running the party. We also welcome donations towards the hampers. This year both of these events will take place on Saturday 17th December. If you would like to get involved in hamper making or the client party, please contact our Centre Manager, Rachel Dawson, to find out more.
